The execution method for Zane Floyd remains unclear, as arguments presented by his defense may be considered moot in light of the state’s inability to acquire new drugs for execution after their supply expired at the end of February.

ICYMI: The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals intervened two days before Melissa Lucio’s execution date and ordered a trial court to review new evidence in the case. Lucio faced the death penalty despite overwhelming evidence of her innocence.
In Tennessee and Texas, the oldest individuals on death row faced execution last month, with very different outcomes. Carl Buntion became the oldest person executed in TX, though we mourn for all involved. We hold out hope for Oscar Smith, whose execution was stayed due to an “oversight” in the execution preparation.
